The plastics side of the business is conducted by Teijin Chemicals Ltd., which was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Teijin Chemicals began producing Polycarbonate in 1960 and was the first company in Japan to industrialize the manufacture of PC. Today, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of Polycarbonate and PC alloys in the world.

Teijin Chemicals was also the first company worldwide to develop and market optical grade Polycarbonate for use in compact discs, and the company maintains a strong leadership position in this growing market and its emerging applications.

In addition to its widely recognized Panlite® Polycarbonate, Multilon® PC/ABS and other PC alloys, Teijin Chemicals manufactures PC sheet and film, PET, PEN, flame retardants and fumigants.
